Book questions necessity of some technological marvels

Abstract:
It's not easy staying sane in a world of progress. Bill McKibben's solution is to stop the progress altogether. In a thoroughly rational and extremely depressing book, he makes a persuasive case for saying "Enough!" to the hurly-burly modern world. With the same well-reasoned and philosophical insights that marked his manifesto "The End of Nature," McKibben questions the necessity of many technological marvels.
