Canon sets Y200 bln for basic research by 05

Abstract:
Canon Inc will invest over 200 billion yen ($1.68 billion) by 2005 to bolster its basic research in growth areas such as nanotechnology and flat panel displays. The investment will account for almost all the increase in R&D spending planned by Canon for the three years from 2003.
