Simple, Fast, Economic Method Found in Iran to Leach Jeans

Tehran, Iran | Posted on May 10th, 2015

The final fabrics produced through this method have good color stability and they are antibacterial as well as having desirable softness and air diffusivity.

In this research, clay nanosheets on montmorillonite modified with organic materials was used as a new agent for leaching jeans in a normal washing machine. Generally speaking, the new leaching process for jeans is called washing with nano-organic materials, and it is a simple, fast and economic method. This method can be easily used in industries and results in the more added value.

Among the advantages of the method, mention can be made of the execution of some processes, including starching, leaching and softening in one stage. In other words, the leaching process has been carried out without starching and without using softeners.

The mechanism of the method can be explained this way; clay nanoparticles adsorb indigo pigment on the surface of the fabrics through surface abrasion of the jeans, and they create an old appearance, which is a permanent color change. In addition, nanoclay sheets get distance from each other during the leaching process, and they are easily absorbed on cotton fibers of the jeans, and they are placed on the surface of the fibers. This results in softening and antibacterial properties and it protects the fabric against ultraviolet waves.

Results of the research have been published in Textile Research Journal, vol. 85, issue 1, 2014, pp. 91-100.
