Abstract:
QD Vision, Inc., the leading manufacturer of quantum dot optical components for LCD products, has won the 2014 Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This is the highest domestic honor in the field, recognizing chemical technologies that incorporate the principles of green chemistry into chemical design, manufacture, and use.

QD Vision Wins Prestigious Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge Award from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency

Lexington, MA | Posted on October 16th, 2014

QD Vision was selected as the winner in the ‘Greener Reaction Conditions' category among a competitive field that included some of the nation's largest chemical companies. QD Vision was recognized for its ‘green chemistry' approach to quantum dot technology for energy-efficient commercial display and lighting products. Green chemistry refers to the design of chemical products and processes that reduce or eliminate the generation and use of hazardous substances.

"We are humbled and honored to receive such a significant award from the foremost U.S. authority on environmental stewardship," said Seth Coe-Sullivan, Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer of QD Vision. "This is a much appreciated recognition of our R&D teams, who work tirelessly and conscientiously to advance our company's commitment to create products that are aligned with the principles of responsible development, prevention through design, and green chemistry."

Semiconductor quantum dot technology delivers both high efficiency and high color quality LCD TVs, monitors, and mobile displays, and has many applications in other solid state lighting uses. Historically, production of these nanomaterials involved hazardous chemicals and low yields. QD Vision has continuously improved its process to use fewer hazardous building blocks and solvents, reduce solvent waste, increase yields, and ensure a net positive environmental benefit of its products.

This prestigious annual award program is sponsored by the EPA's Office of Chemical Safety and Pollution Prevention, in partnership with the American Chemical Society Green Chemistry Institute.
