2017 EU-U.S. Workshop Will Be Held September 7-8, 2017

The 2017 European Union (EU)-U.S. "Bridging NanoEHS Research Efforts Joint Workshop" will be held September 7-8, 2017, at the University of Birmingham. See https://us-eu.org/2017-eu-us-nanoehs-workshop/ The workshop will be activity-driven, and the activity will be to consider current (and future) approaches to nano environmental and health safety (nanoEHS) research to close the gap between research and regulation. The activity will focus on nanomaterials testing, grouping, and read-across methodologies, using case-studies to provide context for the discussion, focusing on if/how research data can be used in regulatory contexts. The workshop will use "clicker (polling) technology" to collect the evolution of audience opinions in real-time. The 2017 Communities of Research (COR) meeting will provide updates from the seven running CORs and undertake some initial scoping work for possible new COR activities (e.g., nanomedicine, nanofabrication/nanomanufacturing). A workshop synthesis report will capture input from invited experts, participant remarks, and a summary of COR activities. The EU-U.S. workshop will follow the 12th International Conference on the Environmental Effects of Nanoparticles and Nanomaterials (ICEENN 2017), which will be held September 3-6, 2017. See http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/schools/gees/research/conferences/nano2017/index.aspx ICEENN 2017 will bring together researchers, regulators, and industry to discuss recent advances in the understanding of both the fate and behavior of nanomaterials and their applications in the environmental and the key issues relating to maintaining the economic and social benefits of nanotechnology.
